EcoGrit ice melt does not contain any corrosive chemicals or toxic ingredients. Instead, the salt-free, organically-derived granules work by harmlessly breaking down the bonds in frozen water to turn it back into liquid. EcoGrit can be sprinkled directly onto frozen surfaces or mixed with water to make a handy spray. It is effective on all kinds of icy surfaces, from pavements, driveways and roads to playgrounds, paddocks and sports pitches. It also works very well on metal railings, gates, padlocks and farm equipment.
Ice melt works by reacting with frozen water and altering its chemical format. The contents of an ice melt like EcoGrit cause the temperature to rise, thus melting the frozen water and allowing it to flow safely away from the icy surface. EcoGrit is a safer, more environmentally-friendly alternative to rock salt, which leaves dangerous residues behind that can damage surfaces, wildlife, vehicles and animal paws. You can apply ice melt before sub-zero temperatures are forecast so that it starts working straight away to prevent water from freezing over and forming slippery ice. It can work down to temperatures of minus 20 degrees °C.

From working in the road repairs industry, it soon became apparent to me that the rock salt put down on our roads does an unbelievable amount of damage.
This damage isn’t just to the roads. Rock salt corrodes and rusts any metalwork it is in contact with, as well as any vehicles which use them. It puts high levels of salt back into the watercourse and damages most living things, including plants and animals.
